Microsoft says Irish DPC intends to slam LinkedIn with a $425m fine
The Ireland’s Data Protection Commission (DPC) has recently proposed a hefty fine for Microsoft, in response to alleged violations of European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) through targeted ad practices utilized by LinkedIn. Microsoft’s statement to its investors indicated that the non-public draft decision issued by the Irish DPC in April estimated the penalty at roughly $425 million.
Upon receipt of this information, Microsoft has pre-emptively increased their existing reserve and determined that its fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2023 will incur a charge of about the same amount. The company is actively preparing their response to the draft decision and intends to challenge it tenaciously; however, they cannot estimate when a final resolution will be reached.
Regardless of what lies ahead, Microsoft has vowed to stay compliant and honor the terms of GDPR regulations.
