Amazon appeals against a record €746 million GDPR fine
Amazon.com Inc. is currently challenging a substantial privacy fine imposed by European Union regulators, amounting to €746 million. The fine was levied on the grounds that Amazon had violated the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), which is designed to protect the personal data and privacy of individuals within the EU.
Amazon’s defense, presented in a Luxembourg court, argues that the regulatory authorities favored a punitive approach over a cooperative one, and that the accusations of privacy infringement are baseless.
This case is unfolding at Amazon’s regional headquarters in Luxembourg, where the company has criticized the regulators for not seeking an amicable resolution before resorting to fines. Amazon contends that the regulators’ actions were more aligned with punishment than with the protection of consumer data privacy.
