Italy restores ChatGPT after OpenAI responds to regulator
The ChatGPT chatbot is once again operational in Italy, following OpenAI’s response to the concerns raised by the country’s data protection authority, Garante. Last month, the authority had imposed a temporary ban on the AI application and launched an investigation into potential violations of privacy laws.
OpenAI has now taken steps to make its privacy policies more transparent and made available an opt-out form for user content. Additionally, a new form has been added that allows users in the European Union to exercise their right to refuse its use of personal data for training purposes.
Garante has acknowledged the progress made by OpenAI in reconciling technology advancements with respect for human rights and is looking forward to continued compliance with European data protection regulations. The investigation will continue through a special task force, and Garante continues to monitor ChatGPT’s activities.
