Italian SA fines Enel Energia EUR 26.5 million
The Italian SA (Guarantor for the protection of personal data) fined Enel Energia over EUR 26.5 million on account of unlawfully processing users’ personal data for telemarketing purposes without the required consent. In addition to paying the fine, the company will have to implement several measures imposed by the Italian SA to bring its processing activities into compliance with EU and domestic data protection law.
Enel Energia will also have to implement further technical and organizational measures to handle data subjects’ requests to exercise their rights including, in particular, the right to object to processing for promotional purposes – so as to provide feedback on those requests by no later than thirty days.
