ChatGPT in spotlight as EU’s Breton bats for tougher AI rules
EU industry leader Thierry Breton has recently addressed the safety of AI technology, pointing to ChatGPT’s chatbot and AI systems as significant concerns. Critics have warned that the programs employed by such apps could be employed for illicit activities such as plagiarism, deception and the circulation of misinformation, even as proponents celebrate AI as an extraordinary revolutionary success.
Breton emphasized the dangers associated with ChatGPT and AI systems and underscored the importance of rules which he had proposed earlier in a bid to establish the worldwide standard for the technology. Presently, these regulations are being examined by Brussels.
According to the EU draft regulations, ChatGPT can be classed as a general AI system that can potentially serve multiple functions, including particularly risk-prone operations such as job or credit scoring selection. Breton has asked OpenAI to collaborate closely with downstream developers of high-risk AI to ensure conformation with the envisaged AI Act.
