Spain fines Google 10 million Euro
The Spanish Agency for Data Protection (AEPD) has imposed a penalty of 10 million euros on Google LLC for two breaches of the data protection regulations – for giving data to third parties without legal grounds and hindering the data subject’s right of data deletion (articles 6 and 17 of the General Data Protection Regulation).
Google was deemed to be illegally transferring data to is the Lumen Project, a U.S.-based academic project out of the Berkman Klein Center for Internet & Society at Harvard University which aims to collect and study legal requests for the removal of online information by amassing a database of content takedown requests.
As well as being fined, Google has been ordered to amend its procedures to bring them into compliance with the GDPR — and to delete any personal data it still holds related to this enforcement.
