Half a million Dutch home workers monitored via software
For 13% of homeworkers, the employer uses software to monitor whether they are at work. This is evident from CNV research among 1200 homeworkers.
‘This means that more than half a million workers are constantly monitored by their employer. In practice, this number is probably even higher because not everyone knows the business software well, ‘says Piet Fortuin, CNV chairman.
‘But from a legal point of view this is only allowed in exceptional cases, for example if there is a serious suspicion of abuse. Moreover, monitoring is unnecessary and ineffective: many homeworkers are more efficient and productive than at the office. This is often counterproductive and often does not contribute to more productivity. ‘
