European data regulators set up ChatGPT taskforce
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has created a task force in order to facilitate collaboration and information sharing between European regulators. This action comes as several European agencies have requested more oversight on OpenAI’s ChatGPT AI chatbot, which is the subject of increased attention.
In March, the Italian privacy regulator initiated an investigation and issued a temporary restriction on ChatGPT’s processing of personal data taken from Italian users due to potential violations of legislations including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
OpenAI has yet to establish a physical presence within any of the twenty-seven nations that make up the European Union, making it possible for any data protection authority to commence investigations and implement prohibitions.
