EDPB Adopts 2026-2027 Work Programme
The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has adopted its work programme for 2026-2027, aligning with its 2024-2027 strategy. This programme focuses on enhancing harmonization and promoting compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), reinforcing enforcement cooperation, safeguarding data protection amid evolving digital landscapes, and contributing to global data protection dialogue. It also reflects commitments made in the Helsinki Statement to improve clarity and support for GDPR compliance.
To support harmonization, the EDPB plans to issue clear guidance on key GDPR concepts, including consent, anonymization, pseudonymization, and children’s data protection. The Board will create practical tools such as templates, checklists, and FAQs aimed at non-experts to facilitate compliance. Additionally, it will advise EU lawmakers on data protection issues, collaborating with the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS) on legislative proposals like the Digital Omnibus.
The programme emphasizes strengthening enforcement consistency and cooperation among Data Protection Authorities (DPAs) across Europe. The EDPB will continue to serve as a platform for exchanging information on cases and best practices, while supporting enforcement tools and ensuring the smooth operation of the GDPR consistency mechanism. It will also upgrade its IT systems to improve its operational efficiency.
In response to emerging technologies and cross-sector regulations, the EDPB will adopt a human-centric approach to data protection, issuing guidelines on generative AI, data scraping, and political advertising. It will engage with other regulatory bodies involved in digital markets and data innovation to maintain coherent data protection standards. The Board also commits to fostering international cooperation on data protection enforcement and guidance, including GDPR transfer mechanisms and collaboration with third-country authorities.
