Rishi Sunak faces calls to ban TikTok use by government officials
Rishi Sunak has come under pressure to prohibit governmental figures from using TikTok, in a similar manner to the US and EU, citing security apprehensions linked with China.
The European Commission recently instructed their employees not to use the Chinese-owned video-sharing social app on any of their company-issued phones or even personally owned smartphones which contain job-related applications. This follows Trump’s previous restriction on government workers from employing the app on their work-linked devices.
Nevertheless, Prime Minister is yet to be convinced by the demands for a ban on British parliamentarians and employees from utilizing TikTok, which has become increasingly popular amongst UK politicians. Engagingly, it is time for decisive action from the government to protect the public from data breaches and malicious interference that could originate from TikTok.
