Google forced to postpone Bard chatbot’s EU launch over privacy concerns
Google’s plan to launch their artificial intelligence chatbot Bard in the European Union has been delayed due to privacy concerns raised by the Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC).
The regulator noted that they had yet to receive an adequate data protection impact assessment, or any additional information about how Bard complies with GDPR rules. Upon further investigation of the matter, the DPC informed the tech giant that they would need to provide a comprehensive assessment as soon as possible.
Considering Bing Chat and OpenAI’s ChatGPT have both faced similar difficulties in the past, Google has held off on the EU launch for their own AI tool until its legal basis and data security measures are established.
