Facebook Biometric Privacy Suit Not Tossed
A federal judge has ruled that a class action lawsuit against Facebook regarding its photo scanning and face prints technology can move forward. The class action lawsuit alleges that the Facebook technology uses biometrics in a way that violates an Illinois state privacy law.
A unique Illinois law — the Biometric Information Privacy Act — could result in Facebook facing fines of $1,000 to $5,000 each time a person’s image is used without permission. It could also result in new restrictions on the site’s use of biometrics in the U.S.
