W3C privacy principles

This document provides definitions for privacy and related concepts that are applicable worldwide. It also provides a set of privacy principles that should guide the development of the Web as a trustworthy platform. People using the Web would benefit from a stronger relationship between technology and policy, and this document is written to work with both.

This document is a Draft Finding of the Technical Architecture Group (TAG) which we are releasing as a Draft Note. The intent is for this document to become a W3C Statement. It was prepared by the Web Privacy Principles Task Force, which was convened by the TAG. Publication as a Draft Finding or Draft Note does not imply endorsement by the TAG or by the W3C Membership.
